The 30k Challenge: Online Money Bloggers

As I have hinted in the past, I have been working on developing a few other online projects. Today, I am happy to be able to release the news of one of them. Derek, from Life and My Finances, and I had challenged each other to make $30,000 online in 2012.We figured this would be a great way to motivate ourselves to invest in what we are doing with our blogs and we both believe think that we can accomplish this goal.

Online Money Bloggers

What is Online Money Bloggers?

We loved the idea so much that we created Online Money Bloggers so that others could join in the challenge. While it does have a competitive aspect to it (see who gets to $30k first), Online Money Bloggers is a site created to help each other earn more money.

There will be regular updates on all the challengers’ progress to earn 30k so that the entire world can see how close the challengers are to achieving their goal. The site is also designed to help the everyone (challengers and readers) earn more money from blogging as there will be regular posts from our challengers on how to earn more money from blogging. This means that if you have been blogging and want great advice on how to bring your blog from nothing to earning a decent income with it, Online Money Bloggers is the place to go. You will most likely hear a variety of different strategies and opinions – which means more useful information for you.

What I like most about it is that these are bloggers who have not only been around for at least a little while, but also can relate to those who are starting a blog. It is hard to relate to someone like Pat Flynn who is making $30k+ per month. Not everyone can reach this level, but who is to say that everyone can’t reach $30k in a year?

I am a part of the Challenge

If it isn’t already clear, I am part of the challenge. You can follow my progress at OnlineMoneyBloggers.com starting January 1. In the mean time, I am going to continue working on building up some money-making blogs. :) In order to achieve this goal, I have to average $2500 each month. This is a large figure, but still within reach (I think). I currently have a few things in the works to bump up my potential for growth.

Stay tuned for more updates!

That sounds like a really good idea. Any chance of a repeat next year for those of us still getting started and working on getting those required ratings?

Also, does money earned on via OnlineMoneyBloggers.com add to your total (since you own the site), or are you going to keep that separate while you’re a participant?

    • Corey says:

We would be thrilled to keep it going. We also put in a stipulation that if people are making over 20k, their goal is to increase their income by 30k. This means that I suspect many people will continue to participate in years to come.

Yes, I do plan on counting it – mostly because there is a lot of administrative work that is required to keep it going. I am already spending multiple hours each week to make sure it is running smoothly. I think it will be a little while before it is earning any serious money, but we’ll see.

Well I’m a little sad…my alexa ranking is about 1 million. Seems I have more work to do before I can join…maybe next year.

But this is a great idea, I will be following closely, and maybe competing unofficially. ;)

    • Corey says:

haha. Thanks for the support. Be sure to stay tuned. Who knows – we could expand the site even more. It has a lot of potential!

    Corey,
I think this is a great idea…to publicly track one’s earnings will surely inspire others to step up their games. As for me, I do not generally “jump right in” to anything new, but I am considering it. I know this: 30K is a lot more than I am making now!

    • Corey says:

I think that 30k has a nice ring to it. If you are considering it, you might want to apply soon. The challengers will be announced very soon!

  4. I follow Derek’s blog, too, and read his post about this challenge. Initially, I thought there was no way I could make $30K in one year. I might be able to get halfway there with a lot of work. I will definitely be following to see what I can learn and the techniques that I might pick up. On the other hand, it is sure tempting to want to join and push myself big time. I am still on the fence.

Good Luck! I am excited to watch your progress

  7. Great concept! I’m looking forward to watching your progress. Also interested to see what strategies you employ to hit your target. Good luck.

  8. That’s a pretty incredible goal. Especially considering most of you guys are doing this as a side gig. If I make 6K next year online I’ll be pretty happy!

  9. I really like this idea!! Great to think big. I would like to participate, but I have a problem. I do not like to put my financials out in public!!! So any suggestions for participants less public?

    • Corey says:

Thanks Barb – There is another option, but because the challenge is geared towards showing the progress it isn’t full-proof. I will email you the details.

  10. So cool. I’m taking a hard look at. Hopefully, I’ll be able to apply. I at least meet the elligibility.

  11. Have to agree with Barb on this one. I prefer to keep my finances private. Plus it’s one less place for the IRS to track my income.

    Everything else sounds good though.

    • Corey says:

Thanks JP. There is one alternative, but it still involves sending in your figures to the administrators. I will send you the details.

  12. Oren says:

This is a great idea for motivation but my site is still way to early to join the challenge. I will be watching the progress and hoping that one day I will be able to qualify!
