January 2012 Blog Goals and Income

Are you curious how much money I make by blogging? Well, you are in luck because I give full disclosure to my readers. I think this is a great way for my readers to partner with me and make this a success. Because I don’t just blog for the money, I also include monthly goals in these updates. My main goal is providing a great resource for others to learn how to manage their finances. If I make money while doing that, I’m all for it. I really do see this as a partnership with my readers and that is why I also host giveaways throughout the year, like the giveaway that is currently going on (be sure to enter).

Goals

These are the goals that I set at the beginning of the month to reach by the end of January and how I ended up as of February 1:

  • Alexa Ranking: 60,000; actual: 64,352 (a slight drop)
  • RSS subscribers: 175; actual: 216 (Yes!)
  • Twitter followers: 360; actual: 428 (Booya!)
  • Facebook Fans: 65; actual: 91 (Wahoo!)

When I originally set my goals for January, I didn’t know that I would be running a giveaway, that would help my numbers. Starting this giveaway has been a huge help to accomplish some of my goals. My alexa ranking is still staying about the same from last month. While I would like it to go below 60k again, I would rather focus on more important things. If my site really becomes more popular, it will change on its own.

For February

I want to keep making progress with the site. Here are my goals for the next month.

I am starting to see a steady growth in all areas, which tells me that it is genuine growth. I have been focusing on writing more quality content on this site and I think it is slowly paying off. I am also seeing a positive swing in visitors, even though my alexa doesn’t indicate that.

Income Report

Here are the details:

Advertising: $2375

WAIT, THERE’S MORE: If you are wondering what happened to my freelance and staff writing money, it is still coming in. Since it is not directly related to this site, I am now tracking that information on my other finance blog, Passive Income to Retire. If you want to see all of the details for this month, here is my latest passive income report.

In the future, my other site will detail the income reports from other blogs that I am building up. I expect to have a diversified collection of blogs that are bringing in steady income. But, I still want to show you how much I am making for this site, so no need to worry – the income reports will continue.

I am very happy with the results of this blog. My income is continuing to grow and I already have deals lined up for February. If things continue to increase at this level, I may start to wonder when to quit my day job.

Thanks SB. I don’t publish my traffic, but it slowly increasing, thanks to your advice. I am starting to get a handle on this SEO thing and it’s showing. For now, let’s just say it doesn’t even compare to your traffic. Maybe 1/3 the pageviews.

Thanks MUM. Yes, I bet you are beating me out on many levels. I honestly think part of it has just been luck (more or less) with getting the right deals at the right time. Here’s hoping it continues.

That $2375 is huge! How do you get that kind of income from Advertising? Do you have to do a lot of selling to get Ads on your site?

    Hi Corey….

just stumbled on your blog and, poking around, I’m not surprised at your success.

this entry is well timed for me. I’ve been blogging mostly for my own amusement but a business pal of mine has been prodding me to monetize my site.

I look forward to hearing more.

Right now it’s just CPC and private ads. I need to get into affiliates, but I just don’t have the traffic yet to make it worth my time.
