December 2011 Goals and Income Report

Are you curious how much money I make by blogging? Well, you are in luck because I give full disclosure to my readers. I think this is a great way for my readers to partner with me and make this a success. Because I don’t just blog for the money, I also include monthly goals. My main goal is providing a great resource for others to learn how to manage their finances. If I make money while doing that, I’m all for it. I really do see this as a partnership with my readers and that is why I also host giveaways throughout the year.

These are the goals that I set at the beginning of the month to reach by the end of December and how I ended up as of January 1:

  • Alexa Ranking: 60,000; actual: 64,634 (a slight drop)
  • RSS subscribers: 150; actual: 161 (Yes!)
  • Twitter followers: 350; actual: 327 (not bad)
  • Facebook Fans: 60; actual: 60 (Wahoo!)

When I originally set my goals for December, I failed to take into consideration the drop in traffic for the Holidays. I was still able to increase my subscribers for 20’s Finances by 50 and twitter followers by 77, but I failed to reach all of my lofty goals for December. I guess you live and learn. On a side note, I was able to increase my facebook fans without any major promotion. Thank you all for supporting 20’s Finances.

For January

I want to keep making progress with the site. Here are my goals for the next month.

I am starting to see a steady growth in RSS subscribers. I want to continue this progress throughout the next year. I think slow, steady growth says a lot more than unexpected gains. I am going to focus on quality of writing, continue to post consistently, and network to work towards these goals. I may even throw in some frequent blog giveaways as an incentive as well, so stay tuned. I want to get back under 60k for my alexa as well. The Holidays put me back over 60k and I am going to be aggressive to keep this as low as possible.

Income Report

Here are the details:

Advertising (including: adsense, affiliate, and private): $742.50

WAIT, THERE’S MORE: If you are wondering what happened to my freelance and staff writing money, it is still coming in. Since it is not directly related to this site, I am now tracking that information on my other finance blog, Passive Income to Retire. If you want to see all of the details for this month, here is my latest passive income report.

In the future, my other site will detail the income reports from other blogs that I am building up. I expect to have a diversified collection of blogs that are bringing in steady income. But, I still want to show you how much I am making for this site, so no need to worry – the income reports will continue.

I am very happy with the results of this blog. My income is continuing to grow and I already have deals lined up for January. I had several advertiser’s tell me that they want to wait until the new year, so I am getting ready for a significant month to start out the 2012 year. If things continue to increase at this level, I may start to wonder when and how to quit my day job.
