Goals and Round Up #1

I have officially been blogging for about a month and a half. A couple of weeks ago, I joined the Yakezie network. This has provided me with great support, feedback and visitors to my site. Thanks so much Yakezie! It has also helped me understand that a blog will continue to grow as time goes on. I have decided to publish my monthly goals on my blog. This will help me continue to strive to improve my blog as well as keep you all informed of the progress.

My Goals

These are the goals that I hope to reach by the end of September (normally it will be a month long period to reach goals):

  • Alexa Ranking: 400,000 (if you are wondering what this is, read the next paragraph)
  • RSS subscribers: 35
  • Twitter followers: 100
  • Facebook Fans: 25

I also keep track of my yearly goals on a different page, which includes getting a page rank (other than 0) from Google. For those who don’t know, Alexa is a company that ranks the websites on the internet based on the number of people who have the Alexa Toolbar installed in their internet browser. Every time someone with the toolbar installed visits my site, the ranking goes down (lower number = progress)! Install the Alexa Toolbar to improve my ranking! I showed my wife this toolbar and she is addicted. Whenever she goes to a website she can now see how popular a website is. You should try it out!

What I am Doing

I am working really hard to build up my content here at 20’s Finances. I want to make it so that visitors will want to return. In order to do this, I am publishing at least 3-4 articles a week. I have one series going (which I am really proud of), which should be at least a 10 week series, Weekly Frugal Tips. I am also trying to connect with other bloggers. In addition to using the Yakezie network, I am also writing many guest posts. This will allow me to show off my writing talent and provide links back to my site. It also helps out other blogs because I am contributing to their site under my name (for free). It’s a win-win situation!

On a side note, I was recently added to Money Crashers’ Top PF Blogs. You can also view my progress (according to their ranking system) through the badge (with my ranking) on the bottom left of my site. I am starting at the bottom, but am looking forward to see how it changes as time moves on. Be sure to stay tuned on my progress.

Miss T, thanks so much! Yes the frugal tips keep me going. They are more straight forward and less creative, but very practical. Thanks.

Hard work, determination and good content will get you where you want to be. The hours will be long but it’s well worth it in the end. I applaud you in keeping your goals for your site upfront and out there. It’s a constant reminder of what you are striving for.

Good luck and I’ll be back to check your articles in the future.

    • Corey says:

Thanks Retireby40. That means a lot coming from you. I will definitely keep adding content, hoping that it’s quality. 😉 Thanks again for the support.

  6. Congrats on such great progress! I’m curious to know how you went about securing guest spots on other people’s blogs?

    • Corey says:

Thanks Happy Homeowner. It has been a lot of work, but I really enjoy blogging. I will send you a personal email about the details.

  9. Congratulations on your progress so far! Just keep going – you’ll be drowning in traffic before you know it. And I will give you a dollar if you switch to full posts in your RSS feed. :)

  10. Hey Cory,

Congrats on your success, you have worked really hard! I just noticed you shattered your goal for Alexa rank 374K and falling! I also like the idea of putting your plan out there, I can learn a thing or two from your success!

    • Corey says:

Paul, Thanks. Yes, I just saw my new ranking this morning. I couldn’t believe it. I thought it would be slowing down, but it just doesn’t stop (yet, knock on wood).

  11. Aaron Hung says:

Thanks for the shout out Corey, you’re doing great! keep at it 😀

  12. So much for that Alexa goal by the end of the month. At this rate, you might crack 300K or 250K!! Awesome work and keep it moving!

  13. Kudos to you – your site is catching on very quickly. It is a well designed site with great writing behind it so no surprise. And btw, your Alexa ranking looks to be at 374K so looks like you can check that goal off your list!

  14. You are doing great!! Keep up the good writing!

  15. Bloggette says:

Very cool to hear your goals. Best of luck! You’ve done great for only 1.5 months in!

  16. Congrats on making it a month and a half! You need to set harder goals! Currently you are at 341k on my Alexa bar.. well below your end of September goal of 400k!

    • Corey says:

I know. At the time I wrote this (a couple days before it was published), I was well above 400k and I thought I would be slowing down. This doesn’t seem to be the case and I passed it the day that it published. :) I am excited to see it drop. I will definitely set harder goals next time.

  17. Great goals. Keep up the good work 20s Finance. :)

  18. Evan says:

Keep up the good work! If there is anything I can do to help just email me.

  19. Thanks Corey. :-) You have come so far in such little time. I think your Alexa is even lower than mine. Congrats.
