A few months back I hinted at a lifestyle change and that I would announce it on the blog soon. Well, here is time for the big reveal. Since it is the weekend, I thought this would an appropriate time to share pictures of our new dog.
Meet Madison (or Maddie, for short):
We got Maddie just before Christmas and will be turning 5 months in March.
Implications of Owning a Dog
While most people (who get a dog) post on how financially expensive it is to own a dog, the truth is that owning a dog is a lot of work. We live in an apartment building so we have to take her down the elevator and walk her outside to the grass area to let her go to the bathroom… several times a day.
When we got her, that included taking her out in the middle of the night.
While it may be a lot of work, owning also comes with unparalleled benefits. Companionship is often underrated, but not on this blog. Owning a dog isn’t just a mathematical or financial equation. It’s much more complicated. While you should always make sure that you can afford to take care of a dog, it’s not that simple.
Owning Maddie has been a good reminder that life is never simple. It may seem really easy to boil life decisions down to numbers, but never forget that there is more that goes into it than just money. Money definitely matters, but it’s not the end-all.
